Tim Hanauer: Lyrics

Go

(Tim Hanauer)
January 12, 2009

The story behind the writing of "Go" is pretty simple.  I had been working all day to write a song and I was getting nowhere.  I had been trying to write for hours.  It was afternoon.  I was frustrated.  Then, I was angry.  And then, bam.  Out popped "Go."  It happened in a flash.  Guess I just needed a catalyst.

C#

Lift me up and push me down - I’m crushed, oh, and fading out

F#maj7

Tire swings and photographs - I’m swinging ‘round your silly laugh

C#

Hold me close, and make me cry - I have to fall so I can fly

F#maj7

Hiding in your favorite place - Laughter streaming down your face

A#m7  G#   F#maj7     F#maj7

And, I     know,

I               know,

I               know                    - you had to go

Lift me up so I can see - Another game of hide and seek

Eat another Oreo - Taking off your dirty clothes

Firelight, the fireplace - You’ll come to play another day

Walk along the low stone wall - Too far away to hear me call

CHORUS

C#            F#maj7            A#m7            G#

Go

C#            F#maj7            A#m7            F#maj7

Go

C#            F#maj7            A#m7            D#7

Go,        Go,      Go

Lift me up and make believe - You’re home again at last with me

Lemonade is selling fast - Summer days will never last

Hold me close don’t let me drop - I’m so alone where you are not

Hiding in your favorite place - Laughter streaming down your face

CHORUS

C#            F#maj7            A#m7            G#

Go

C#            F#maj7            A#m7            F#maj7

Go

C#            F#maj7            A#m7            D#7

Go,        Go,      Go

C#            F#maj7            A#m7            G#

Go

C#            F#maj7            A#m7            F#maj7

Go

C#            F#maj7            A#m7            D#7

Go,        Go,      Go

CHORUS (end on “You had to go…”)
